Our Story

It’s been said a million times before, “don’t judge a book by its cover.” One look at the five guys that make up BFO Strange’Us, you will be compelled to question just what it is that unites them: THE ANSWER, an undying love for music, and an intangible sound that puts them in a class all their own. The group traces their roots to Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA in 2004. In their humble beginnings, BFO began as a group of college friends making rap parodies in a dusty dorm room using ten dollar desk mics. From there, they decided to try their hand at writing and producing their own music. The members at the time, Jordan (J-Mizz) Wooten, Nic (Roundtree Baby) Roundtree, Sam (Sammy Ives) Sooyola, Jamaal (Jay-EL) Hutchinson along with long time friend Cedric Thomas were young hip-hop hopefuls making music that appealed to them. Spinning tales of college life and all that came with it.

In 2006, the group would add its then sixth member, Darin (Felix St. Cool) Woodard. Their humble roots were still present, but BFO wanted more, and as time went on, their talent grew. The music began taking on undertones that would transform them into the well-rounded musicians they are today. Performing in local Statesboro music competitions, open-mics, or anywhere else that would have them to develop their talents to hone their performance skills.

A handful of victories and a few flops later, BFO found themselves in avid pursuit of stardom. Even after they graduated and moved to a Atlanta, GA, the group stayed in constant contact with each other as to not give up on their dream. With their undefined sound, BFO is the future of hip-hop. Being composed of members from various backgrounds, their individual personalities emanate through their music to create an unidentified monster. Whether it’s upbeat party themes like “Aint Gotta Go Home,” or melodic rider music in “High Chant,” BFO’s ability is seemingly limitless. Movements come and go, there’s always one to overwrite the next. BFO is more than a movement. Their sound and personalities have evolved into something greater…a lifestyle.

The Dream Team

  • felixstcool Felix St. Cool

    Artist/Producer/Songwriter

Call him emo, call him crazy, call him profound, call him ridiculous. These words and more fit the never settling mold that is the artist Felix St. Cool. Born in Queens, New York, Felix (Darin Woodard) and his family has moved across the country throughout his life, collecting pieces of the cultures that he has encountered along the way. He began writing music in the 6th grade and performing in high school. Always eager to seek more challenging and insightful ways to portray his message, he listened and studied the "new-age" classic artists of hip-hop: The Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, Nas, Outkast, Scarface, Beanie Siegel, Kanye West, Tupac, and the Wu-Tang Clan... just to name a few. He began taking his craft more and more serious until he became the lyrical threat that he is today. His word play and attention to punch lines hasnt been seen in ages; setting a bar that is seldom seen in this generation. Felix joined BFO in the spring of 2006. He was a friend of Jordan (J-Mizz) Wooten; a band mate in the Miles High Group during their high school years; and was introduced to the rest of the group; however, Felix wasnt initially accepted into the group, he had to make his presence felt. With a determination to make himself and those around him better, he amped his game up and started taking his writing feats to new heights. Often times it was a contest between those in the group to have the best punch line, and Felix was all about it, stopping at nothing to achieve lyrical masterhood. From his goofy and nerdy comic-book references, to his deep inquisitive nature about life and our universe, Felix is indeed a man who sits on his own mountain, and dares anyone to try and see him off of it...

  • jayel Jay-El

    Artist/Producer/Songwriter/Engineer

Jamaal Loren Hutchinson aka Jay EL was born on November 29, 1985. A Bronx, New York native who eventually moved to Georgia at the age of 5, Jay-El always felt that there was something bigger than what life had given him. The son of a hip hop and r&b producer, his exposure to the industry superseded your average musician. Fortunately for Jay-E, these footsteps and this door led right into his dreams and a road to making them a reality. His musical talents were developed playing saxophone in the 6th grade and all the way through marching band in high school, which eventually led to his big bang sound which you can hear in his production to this day. Influences such as Eminem, Jay-Z, Outkast, and Kanye West and began to influence him more than your average spectator. He was rhyming with his neighborhood friends at the start of his high school career and by the 12th grade also started producing tracks. “It took me a minute to find myself, because I used to be really self-conscious when it came to recording in front of other people. NOTHING turned out how I wanted it to.” However as BFO Strange’US evolved over the years, Jay-El refined his style , production, and found his voice/sound. “Being exposed to both New York and Georgia, I found a way to cultivate both styles and flows, while at the same time making them mine .” Jay-El.

  • jmizz J-Mizz

    Artist/Producer/Songwriter

Born March 31, 1986 in East Orange New Jersey, Jordan (J-Mizz) Wooten first started rapping when he was only 6 years old. Reciting Rakim’s “Microphone Fiend” by heart. He started perfecting his craft when he got older and in High school joined his first rap group entitled the MHC (Miles High Club). J-Mizz went on to record several mix-tapes with MHC and by his freshman year at Georgia Southern University, he was well on his way to becoming a polished Rapper. Learning new styles along he way, J-Mizz is distinguished only by his southern style of flow mixed with northern ear catching punch lines. After Disbanding from MHC , J-Mizz (with the help of his now present group mates) then formed the group we have all come to know and love. None other than “BFO Strange-US” . Once joining the group, J-Mizz started developing his productions skills and is presently continuing to do so.Presently J-Mizz and “BFO Strange-US” are well on their way to becoming world renown artists. So get ready World, Here come dem Strange-Us!

  • roundtreebaby Roundtree Baby

    Artist/Producer/Songwriter

Well its come to this now has it…? Time for my bio and since we ain’t got biographers in the budget my President has asked me to write my own. So without further delay and the threat of more label fines here is my life in music. September 25, 1985 I was born to Debra Ross in the Houston County Medical Center 2 months premature. My first three months of life I lived in an incubator with needles and pins sticking out of my body. When I finally got home my mother taught me to read and bought me two LP’s as a gift; one was Michael Jackson’s Thriller and the other was LL Cool J’s Bigger And Deffer. These were my first experiences with music. Unable to afford the cost of raising my brother and me my mother shipped us off to Dooly County, GA to be raised by my grandparents, uncles, and cousins. There my uncle Dope introduced me to the Wu-Tang Clan, B.I.G, and so much up top music you wouldn’t believe he was southern. When I finally got to live with my mother I moved to Warner Robins and was put onto P Troy and crunk music. I never wanted to be a musician I was just a huge fan until I started my college career. I finally ventured into making music after a fateful freestyle battle. Freestyling led to writing rhymes to writing songs. My freshman year my lyrical friends and me decided to start a hip-hop group to entertain our friends. This was the beginning of the Legendary BFO Group. Completely focused on writing and producing I bring a creativity to hip-hop that’s simply me. My goal is to dominate rap and have a fuckin blast while I do. My model is party hard and work harder.

  • sammyives Sammy Ives

    Artist/Producer/Songwriter

Sam "Sammy Ives" Soyoola was born in the southern regions of Alabama, but raised from the age of 7 in GA. At that age he learned to play the piano by ear and his love for music has grown fonder ever since. From doing minor gigs for weddings and/or receptions to doing full on productions for his hip hop crew "BFO Strange'US" the maturation in his music can be heard sonically and lyrically. He grew with a fondness for Dungeon Family, Goodie Mob, Outkast, and T.I., with particular attention to Andre 3000, Big Boi, and Cee-Lo green to draw on for inspiration in his early production and even today. He also has other influences outside of the comfort of his souther comfort such as Jay-Z, Eminem, De-La-Soul, Pharaoh Monch, Common, and Kanye West. His style is that of the conscious rapper with a conglomerate sound of the aforementioned artists.
